Why is the speedometer in my 99 Dodge Ram 1500 not working(ABS and Brake lights on)?

Postby arlando41 » Thu Jul 12, 2012 10:34 pm

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.9L. A week ago my check engine light was on and my transmission was shifting hard and slipping. So I replaced the Transmission Speed Sensor and the shifting improved and light turned off. Now my ABS and Brake lights are on, my speedometer reads 0 until I hit 25-35 mph then when I slow down as soon as I hit 34mph it drops to 0. I think the problem is the RWAL Speed/ABS sensor. Suggestions please. If this is the problem I could use some help locating the sensor and installing it in a professional way. Thanks

You are probably correct about the sensor being the problem, My '92 Dakota had the same problem and I found the sensor on the front of the rear axle housing pretty much centered over the ring gear (I think), definitely on the rear housing.

Mine was pretty simple to change out, unplug, remove old sensor, install new sensor, install plug.

Can't say if that is where the 1500 sensor is located.
